This morning I came in the office, logged onto my computer and started doing some work. My animator-friend Ferd-o comes to ask me why I’m working, saying all of their computers were locked down with no network. I didn’t have network either but my computer was running, so I thought the network was gonna be fixed as usual.
Curious, I went to check upstairs, to see people in the hallway exchanging business cards. I asked what was going on, and Matt Battags goes “Dude, you’re kidding? They’re shutting us down!”. Then from cube to cube I hear the rumors are not really rumors. Damn, IT IS HAPPENING!

So yea, we had a big company meeting at 11am to officially announce the news.

A friend who transferred to EA-SanFran asked me to confirm the veracity of the news, as he logged onto the internal MSN and saw all of our names in RED (offline).

Well, looking at it the bright side, I might be out of Chicago before it gets colder this year! I’ve been wanting to leave Chicago so now is the time. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to get laid off because we can all get back on our feet; the saddest thing to me is to know that I won’t see these people anymore, a new family, a lot of talented artists, great people in general.

I am single, renter, no strings here, so I am ready to pack and leave Wherever Whenever (by Wherever I mean anywhere in the World). I just feel very sad for some coworkers who have families and are on a working visa, just bought a house or condo or have been here for so many years. I wish everyone the best and I am sure I will see all those faces again soon.

Le 6 Novembre 2007, EA Chicago ferme ses portes.

Ce matin j’arrive au boulot, me log a mon PC, et commence a bosser. Un ami animateur vient me demander pourquoi je travaille, me dit que leurs PC sont bloqués. Je n’avais pas de réseau mais le PC était allumé, alors je pensais que le réseau allait revenir comme d’hab.
Curieux, je suis monté au 6e étage, pour voir les collègues s’échanger leurs cartes de visite. Je demande ce qu’il se passe, un pote me répond “Tu déconnes!? Ils ferment la boite!”…
En allant de bureau en bureau, je me rend compte que la rumeur n’est pas vraiment une rumeur. Oh Pitaing! C’EST VRAI!

Un big meeting à 11h nous a officiellement annoncé la nouvelle.

En regardant du bon côté des choses, je serais peut être hors de Chicago avant qu’il fasse encore plus froid! Ca fait un moment que je voulais partir d’ici, et voilà le bon moment.
Je ne pense pas qu’un licenciement professionnel soit si grave car on peut toujours se relever. Le plus triste c’est de savoir que je ne verrai plus tous ces gens, une nouvelle famille, beaucoup de superbes personnes avec plein de talent.

Je suis célibataire, je loue un appart, aucune attache ici, donc je suis prêt à faire mes baggages et décoller n’importe quand pour n’importe où. (n’importe où dans le monde). Je suis triste pour des collègues qui ont des familles et qui sont sur visa de travail (immigration), qui viennent d’acheter un appart ou une maison, et ceux qui travaillaient ici depuis longtemps. Je souhaite le meilleur à tous.
